It’s officially day 14 of my “No sugar or meat” challenge. When I started this challenge, I didn’t put together any sort of guideline on how I was going to tackle this. I knew the goal was to eliminate these two items from my grocery list. I still don’t have a guideline. Has it been difficult? Yes and No. Let me explain.
First off. Literally EVERYTHING has sugar in it. Like EVERYTHING! Okay well almost everything.
I try to eat as healthy as I can regularly and I figured this would give me a bit of an advantage. I also knew I could substitute anything with sugar for fruits and because I’m still eating fish I didn’t have much of a craving for meat.
Typically, my meals look something like this.
- Eggs and avocado toast (gluten free bread of course) in the mornings. If I don’t have time it’s usually some fruits and I’m out the door.
- Throughout the day I’ll snack on things like raw almond, grape tomatoes with hummus (my absolute favourite! I could eat this forever if I could) and then lots and lots of water.
- For dinner I’ll have something with meat in it or fish it’s always been my preference.
I’ve stuck to the same routine throughout this challenge, however, unlike before I have to be mindful. Typically, I’d eat meat or anything with sugar if I was craving it and I wouldn’t give it a second thought. I’d say the hardest part for me has been having to remind myself that I’m not allowed to eat these items.
The overall goal is to gain more energy and after this challenge cut down on meat and sugar. I wouldn’t say I consume an unnecessary amount of either one, however, its unrealistic ( at least for me) to think I’d never have sugar or meat again so being mindful of how much I consume is important.
