More on our conversation below.

Tell us a bit about yourself?

Hi, my name is Kaylee Woolhether.  I’m a water lover (grew up on the lake) and cat person.  I love to laugh, and enjoy spending time in the kitchen cooking, especially for others.  I am a graduate of the Institute of Holistic Nutrition, as a Certified Nutritional Practitioner.  My latest pursuit is launching Health Starts Today, an online community of conscious individuals who are working towards optimal health and wellness.  Health Starts Today is a space for people to learn, share, and support each other on their health journey.  I also offer one-on-one nutritional consulting/coaching, as well as nutrition workshops and wellness retreats.  My work with clients focuses on gaining insight into which types of foods work best for their body, as well as a strong focus on developing self-love and healthy body image.  In my spare time, I like to practice yoga, spend time with my family, snuggle my kitty Wally, and soak up the sun!

What inspired you to get into holistic nutrition?

I think it’s common to study and teach what we most need to learn…  A few years ago, I found myself working reception at a health and wellness center, where we focused on holistic healing by treating the body, mind, and spirit.  My eyes were opened to a new way of healing, based on love and treating the whole self.  I had struggled with an unhealthy relationship with food, and my body, for most of my life.  For many years, I had attempted to change my body out of hate, because I disliked my body (and myself) and felt I needed to change.  With a new outlook, I realized I had to shift my attitude, to heal my mind and my spirit, before my body would change.  I reached a point of taking care of my health because I truly love and appreciate my body and myself.  So, this newfound passion for health and healing led me to study reiki energy healing, and ultimately to studying holistic nutrition, which was the next piece of the puzzle for me.  I truly believe in a holistic approach to healing and health, because I have seen it work wonders in my own life and the lives of so many others.

Have you ever had moments of not feeling “Enough” if so how do you deal with that?

Absolutely!  This was a very common feeling for me growing up, whether I realized it or not.  I had to do a lot of self-work to move through these feelings, and I still get them sometimes.  When I feel them cropping up, here is how I deal with them:

-I don’t allow myself to compare.  Whenever my ego starts comparing my life or body or career to someone else’s, I try to shift my attitude to feeling happy for the other person, their successes, etc.  I know that the more I support and cherish others, the more support and joy I will attract into my own life.  Also, I remind myself that we are all exactly where we need to be on our journey, and where I am today is perfect.

-I list 3 things I’m grateful for.  It could be the wonderful people in my life, parts of my body that I love, or the shining sun…  Bringing myself back to a place of gratitude reminds me of all the good in my life.

-I love myself.  However, you choose to express it, this is the key.  It may sound goofy, but when I’m having a low day, I will look in the mirror and tell myself how great I am.  Even if I don’t believe it at first, I keep repeating positive affirmations about myself until I do believe it!

Do you have any beauty rituals?

I always, always wash my face before bed and when I wake up in the morning.  These few minutes of washing up and moisturizing seem to help me wind down from my day or alternatively wake up and get moving in the morning.

Also, I dry skin brush before every shower.  Dry skin brushing is great for improving detoxification and gives the skin a healthy glow!  The dry brush sloughs off dead skin cells, allowing toxins to move out of the body and the skin to look rejuvenated.  It also stimulates the lymphatic system, which improve the immune system.

When do you feel the most beautiful?

When I’m laughing!  Or when I have flowers in my hair!

Any advice for women/young girls out there?

The basis for any healing/health journey is loving yourself.  Self-love is the basis for everything, really.  If you want to see change in your life, whether that be your health, your body, your relationships, anything- you have to start with the self-work and learn to love yourself and what you are currently blessed with. The path to self-love isn’t always easy.  It takes time and consistent effort, but the results are so worth it.  And you deserve to be loved, especially by yourself!
